One alternative to traditional braces is the Invisalign system, which uses clear, plastic aligners instead of metal brackets or wires to straighten teeth. Each aligner is worn for two weeks and then replaced with the next aligner in the series.
Each aligner is designed to put pressure on certain teeth at a certain stage of treatment. This pressure moves the teeth little by little. The next aligner in the series builds on this tooth movement to continue moving teeth to the desired final position designed by your orthodontist. At the beginning of treatment, you will receive a series of clear, removable aligners that you replace on your own. Orthodontist appointments are scheduled every four to six weeks to make sure that your treatment is progressing as planned.
In addition, you can remove your aligners at any time. This means that you can eat, brush, and floss normally. You can also choose to remove your aligners for special occasions, such as a dance or a professional event.
